Karwa Chauth 2024: After Navratri, Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations, it is that time of the year again when married women will keep nirjala vrat (fast without water) for the long life of their husbands - Karwa Chauth. Karwa Chauth is a festival widely celebrated by married women where they refrain from having any sort of food or water the entire day. The fast begins after sunrise and continues till the moon shines in the sky.
To keep yourself energised all day long, there is a tradition of having ‘sargi thali.’ This thali is served by the mother-in-law and since it is the only time you get to eat to survive the entire day, it is essential to have energy-giving foods to get through the day. So what kind of foods can be added to your sargi thali? Let’s check!

Foods To Add To Your Sargi Thali To Stay Energised

Fruits and Dry fruits:
Fresh fruits and dry fruits should be a part of your sargi thali as it will help you stay full for a long. Adding fruits to your sargi thali can help you stay hydrated, and give you required vitamins, and fibre, which will keep your energy levels up. You can add fruits like apples, papaya, watermelon, oranges, bananas to maintain energy levels.
For dry fruits, you can add almonds, cashews, walnuts, and raisins to your Sargi thali to provide a natural energy boost. Nuts are full of vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats that provide sustained energy and help keep you full for longer. Almonds are rich in magnesium and protein, helping regulate blood sugar levels and combat fatigue. Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids that enhance brain function and mood stability. Further, raisins, especially black raisins, are packed with iron and natural sugars that quickly raise energy levels and may help fight dizziness or fatigue during the fast.
Paratha
Add one or two stuffed paratha to your sargi thali. Paratha will keep you full for a longer period of time. You can either have aloo paratha or even a plain paratha with sabzi as paratha will have carbohydrates that will provide you with that extra boost of energy so that you can function throughout the day without feeling weak.
Whole Grains
Whole grains like oats, quinoa, and ragi provide energy that can keep you feeling energized throughout the day. You can have multigrain parathas, oatmeal, or quinoa cheela in your Sargi. The fibre and carbohydrates in whole grains help regulate blood sugar levels, prevent energy crashes, and help stay energised.
Paneer
Paneer is an excellent source of protein, which can help you stay full and energized all day long. Paneer is also rich in calcium and vitamin D, promoting bone health. You can add grilled or any paneer sabzi to your Sargi. This will help you get all the essential proteins and nutrients your body needs during fasting.
Coconut Water
A full glass of coconut water will keep you well-hydrated. Drinking a glass of coconut water before beginning the fast can make a significant difference. Coconut water is rich in electrolytes, such as potassium and sodium, which help maintain the body's fluid balance. It also helps prevent dehydration during the fast and provides a quick energy boost.
Phirni Or Kheer
Desserts or sweets form an important part of the sargi as they complete the meal. Adding phirni or kheer to your sargi thali won't let you feel low on sugar as it is made of milk, rice, sugar and dry fruits. Hence, adding this will be a boost to your sargi meal. You can have other sweets as well like gujiya, laddo, barfi, kalakand and more.
