Bryan Johnson, a 47-year-old software millionaire renowned for his quest to reverse ageing, recently faced a severe allergic reaction following an experimental anti-ageing procedure. In "Project Baby Face," the procedure involved injecting donor fat into his face to counteract a gaunt appearance caused by significant weight loss.
While Johnson's strict 1,950-calorie diet helped him shed excess fat, it also led to unintended facial ageing. Seeking a youthful look, he underwent the fat injection procedure, but within 30 minutes, his face swelled drastically, leaving him temporarily disfigured and unable to see.
A week later, Johnson reassured his followers on Instagram that the swelling had subsided and his face had returned to normal. Despite the setback, he remains committed to his anti-ageing journey, with his team already planning another attempt at the procedure.
“To begin, my team and I evaluated all the scientific literature on longevity and ageing, stack ranking the best-performing health therapies with the most compelling evidence. Caloric restriction was among the early selections. My daily calorie consumption dropped from 2,500 to 1,950. As a result, I got really lean and lost a lot of fat—especially in my face. My biomarkers were improving, but I looked gaunt. People thought I was on the brink of death,” his caption read.
“As Blueprint grew into a global movement, the scrutiny increased. Facial fat, we discovered, is pretty important for how people perceive youth. It didn’t matter how good my biomarkers were if I didn’t have face fat. So, we started “Project Baby Face,” to explore whether we can restore lost volume. We selected the first therapy: injecting a fat-derived extracellular matrix to restore volume by stimulating my body’s natural fat growth. It’s possible to use one’s own body fat for this but the problem was I didn’t have enough fat on my body to extract, so I used a donor,” the caption further read.
“Immediately following the injections, my face began to blow up. And then it got worse, and worse, and worse until I couldn’t even see. It was a severe allergic reaction. Thirty minutes after the treatment, I was scheduled to meet with @valleyhack of Bloomberg to talk about Blueprint. I called him and said, “Hey, so that you’re not alarmed, you may not recognize me today. I think I’m ok. I hope I’m ok. If I’m not ok, are you by chance trained to perform any life-saving actions?” Seven days later my face was back to normal and we were back in the trenches reformulating plans for our next attempt,” the caption read.
He is adopting a healthy lifestyle to make his anti-ageing project a success. He took to X where he shared how his posture was killing him. His journey began after receiving an MRI scan that he described as showing a "ticking time bomb of a problem" related to his posture.
In a series of posts, Johnson expressed his shock at the findings of the MRI, stating, "I didn't realize how terrible my posture was until an MRI showed it was slowly killing my brain." According to him, the scan revealed that his posture was restricting blood flow to his brain, which in turn was impacting its circulation to the heart. He articulated the serious risks associated with this issue, wondering aloud whether he might face a seizure or stroke due to his condition. Johnson emphasized that many people might be unknowingly at risk due to similar poor posture habits.
"Our posture norms are pretty bad," he noted, pointing out common behaviours such as slumping in chairs and looking down at screens for extended periods. Johnson explained that poor posture has become normalized in society, and this can lead to a wide range of negative health consequences. He listed issues such as musculoskeletal pain, circulatory problems, digestive issues, impaired lung function, nerve compression, spinal misalignment, increased stress, fatigue, mood changes, lower motivation, and even sleep disturbances.
In his posts, Johnson shared five habits he adopted to enhance his posture. First, he introduced a simple mental exercise designed to help people remember to maintain an upright position. Second, he cautioned against the habit of looking down at devices, encouraging people to hold their phones at eye level to avoid bending their heads down.
The third habit he recommended was moving every 30 minutes throughout the day. Johnson suggested activities like taking a brisk walk, climbing stairs, stretching, or even dancing. He emphasized that these actions promote better blood flow and provide a necessary reset for one’s posture.
