Ratan Tata Lead A Life Of Disciplined Eating, This Is What His Diet Looked Like

Ratan Tata, a revered industrialist and philanthropist, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and humility. Beyond his business acumen, one of the less discussed aspects of his life was his disciplined lifestyle, particularly his simple yet effective diet. As a Parsi himself, he had a deep-rooted connection with his community’s food. He was fond of home-cooked food and adored the traditional dishes which his sister used to make.
Unlike many high-profile business figures, Tata preferred home-cooked meals over lavish, restaurant-prepared dishes. He believed in the importance of eating in moderation and avoiding excesses, which helped him maintain a healthy physique and good energy levels throughout his busy career.
Parsi Food Lover
In an interview, celebrated Parsi chef Parvez Patel, revealed that Tata loved homestyle Parsi dishes. Patel is known for his long-standing association with Tata Industries and is also known to be Tata's favourite chef. Patel revealed that among his favourites were khatta-meetha masoor dal (a tangy and sweet lentil dish cooked with garlic), mutton pulao dal, and the iconic nut-rich baked custard. Akuri is a Parsi dish which looks similar to scrambled eggs and he loved having it for breakfast.

Emphasis on Balanced Nutrition
Tata's meals were reportedly high in nutrients and low in processed components. His diet consisted of carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats, ensuring that he met his nutritional needs without consuming too many calories. His meals included whole grains like rice and roti, as well as pulses and lentils, both of which are high in protein.
Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
Ratan Tata also valued fresh fruits and vegetables, which were a regular part of his diet. Leafy greens, seasonal vegetables, and salads provided critical vitamins and minerals, which boosted his general health. Fruits, particularly those high in fibre, such as apples, bananas, and citrus fruits, were ingested to strengthen his immune system.
Hydration and Tea
Tata, like many Indians, cherished his daily cup of tea. However, he was watchful of his consumption, avoiding excessive sugar. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day was also an important component of his routine, maintaining sufficient hydration to keep his body running smoothly.
Avoiding Processed and Junk Food
Tata was well-known for avoiding processed and junk food, recognising their long-term health risks. Instead, he ate homemade meals, which allowed him to eliminate unnecessary additives and bad fats.
In a society dominated by fast food and artificial snacks, Tata's diet serves as a reminder of the value of traditional, balanced nutrition. His simple approach to food contributed significantly to his long, healthy, and productive life—a legacy of discipline that will inspire generations to come.
