Real-life weight loss story: Whenever we think of losing weight one thing that pops up in our mind is ‘Will I be able to make it?’ This makes us second our decision but with the right strategies and the right approach, we can achieve our aim. Dr Karandeep Singh being a doctor himself faced challenges when it came to shedding those extra kilos. But he had a strong will to take charge of his life and make a change. He started his transformative weight loss journey with the support of FITTR, an online fitness platform and over 18 months, he transformed not only his physique but also his mindset and approach to life. Here’s how he went from 124 kgs to now 73 kgs!
Dr Singh’s journey began with a desire to bring about positive change in his life. “My inspiration was my will for constant change,” he said. His initial goal was simple: to lose weight. However, as he started his weight loss journey, his focus shifted from weight loss to overall fitness, then to weight training, and eventually to pushing his physical limits. It became a lifestyle change, driven by his desire to continuously improve and maintain his fitness.
Starting at 124 kgs in April 2022, Dr Singh began his weight loss journey. By May 2023, he had made significant progress, where he lost 12 kgs and weighed 112 kgs. As a result, his hard work, dedication and consistency paid off, and by May 2024, he reached his goal weight of 67 kgs, marking the end of his “shredding phase” and the beginning of his “bulking phase” to build muscle. By October 2024, he had reached a lean and muscular body with 73 kgs. This transformative journey took a total of 18 months of intense training, discipline, and dedication.
What Were Some Of The Biggest Challenges You Faced Along The Way?
Like many on a fitness journey, Dr Singh faced several challenges but came out victorious. “Self-doubt was the biggest hurdle,” he shares. Balancing his training with a 24/7 job of being a doctor was not easy. But he had to learn how to make time for workouts and meal prep amidst a busy schedule.Another struggle he faced was dealing with social pressures. “Sometimes, social circles can challenge your discipline, where you must stay focused on your goals despite constant persuasion to deviate,” he said. This involved standing firm in his decisions, resisting temptations, and staying committed to his diet and exercise regimen.
How Did You Stay Motivated Throughout Your Weight Loss Journey?Dr Singh got motivation from his mentor, Jitendra Chouksey. Apart from looking up to Chouksey, he developed certain tricks to keep himself focused. “I’d take progress pictures at the gym, stand in front of the mirror every morning, and have regular discussions with my transformation mentor,” he shares. Making gym buddies with a similar mindset also helped him stay inspired. These strategies kept him on track, helping him stay motivated even on the most challenging days.
Diet And Exercise Regimen During Your Transformation
Dr Singh followed a custom diet. The diet focused on calorie counting and a balance of macronutrients, with high protein, moderate carbohydrates, and healthy fats. His exercise routine was carefully structured, with a focus on muscle group stimulation and rest. “I’d work on one muscle group with two exercises twice a week,” he says, allowing for adequate rest and recovery. This consistent regimen, combined with his disciplined diet, helped him make steady progress. How Did You Overcome Setbacks?
Even with a well-planned approach, Dr Singh faced setbacks, especially with cravings for unhealthy foods. He developed strategies to address these cravings, like staying hydrated and using relaxation techniques. “I began to see cravings as a natural part of any fitness journey—a signal from my body to relax,” he shares. When cravings became overwhelming, he’d turn to his coach, Mananjit Singh, for professional guidance, which helped him maintain his commitment. What Advice Do You Have For Others Who Are Looking To Embark On A Similar Transformation Journey?
For those looking to embark on a similar transformation, Dr Singh’s advice is simple: “Just believe in yourself.” He emphasizes the importance of seeking guidance when needed and staying true to one’s goals, regardless of others’ opinions. “Discipline, hard work, and consistency are the main pillars,” he advises. How Has Your Life Changed Since Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals?
