With a plethora of options available in the market, consumers often get confused by what to pick and what is actually healthy. Over the years, consumption of different types of teas have gained popularity. Early grey, green tea, chamomile tea, black tea, and many more have emerged as a people's favourite. And rightly so! Herbal teas are great immunity-boosters and should be consumed regularly, especially post-pandemic when people are still recovering. But if you're wondering what is the key difference between your favourite chamomile tea and the classic green tea and which is better for weight loss, we will break it down for you.
"While green teas are often promoted and widely consumed due to their various health benefits, chamomile tea can do the same. These teas can help boost your metabolism, and aid in weight loss. Teas like green tea can help break down the fat cells in the body while increasing the pace at which your body burns fat. Green tea is known to boost metabolism as it is jam-packed with antioxidants and catechins. On the other hand, drinking chamomile tea can help you relax and calm you down while relieving your stress," says Jinal Patel, Dietitian, Zynova Shalby Hospital.
Which Is Better For Weight Loss?
Parmeet kaur, Head & Chief - Nutritionist & Dietician, Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram, explains green tea is supposed to be for slimming up. Green tea has caffeine and catechins that could work to give a metabolism boost and burn fats. Chamomile tea, on the other hand, is said to calm down or sleep inducing; hence, not directly related to weight loss. In short, green tea is much better compared to others when it comes to weight loss.A big difference between the two is the absence of caffeine in chamomile tea and the wide known presence of it in green tea. Like mentioned earlier, chamomile tea is always associated with bedtime because it does not contain any caffeine. Additionally, it is known to have calming effects on the brain which relaxes the cells and induces sleep.
Green tea on the other hand is the caffeine-rich king in the tea world. It does not of course kick-in as strongly as coffee does but if one wants to fulfill their caffeine dosage, there is no better option than green tea.
However, it is important to note that the effect of these teas vary from person to person. "Just because drinking these teas has led to your friend’s weight loss, does not mean it will do the same for you," says Dt. Jinal. Along with drinking these teas, various other factors are crucial for weight loss. This can include a combination of regular exercises for more than 45 minutes, eating clean and well-balanced meals, avoiding junk or processed food, and lowering your sugar intake.
