Eating too much protein can add excess pressure on the kidneys. The kidneys work hard to filter waste from protein metabolism and when you consume large amounts of protein, it can lead the kidneys to become overworked which might lead to long-term kidney problems.

Diets that are high in animal-based proteins such as red meat can increase your cholesterol levels and eventually the risk of heart disease. Processed meats have also been linked to heart problems when consumed in excess due to their high levels of saturated fats and preservatives.
Digestive Issues
Overconsumption of protein, especially from animal sources can lead to constipation or diarrhoea. This happens because high-protein diets usually don’t have enough fibre which is important for smooth digestion and bowel movements.

Protein is important for muscle building and repair, however, excess protein is stored as fat. When you consume more calories than you burn, even if it is from protein, it can cause unwanted weight gain.
Dehydration
High protein intake increases urination as the body expels nitrogen which is a byproduct of protein breakdown. This can lead to dehydration if you’re not drinking enough water, thereby, causing fatigue, headaches and dizziness.

When you eat too much protein and don’t have enough of other nutrients, it can result in a lack of other important nutrients like vitamins, fibre and healthy fats. A well-balanced diet is important for overall health.

A diet that is high in protein and low in carbohydrates can lead to a condition called ketosis. This happens wherein the body burns fat for energy. This process produces ketones which can cause unpleasant, fruity-smelling breath that doesn’t go away easily, even with brushing or mouthwash.
