Dua Lipa, known for her superhit songs, has stirred up quite a buzz. A recent video of hers went viral, in which the pop star can be seen combining the classic soda with pickle juice and pickled jalapenos while dining at a restaurant in Texas. This has left netizens in splits, as they can't decide if it's a healthy drink to have or not.
The cocktail has garnered the attention of netizens, and one Reddit user commented that it could be used to clean both the gut and the grill. Many netizens felt disgusted after seeing this video as it is an unusual combination of sweet, sour, and spicy, while others said they tried the cocktail and found it "surprisingly delicious."
The singer's special drink is only for some people's cup of tea (or sparkling pickle juice that tastes like jalapeno). But is it good for your overall health? Let's check!
Sandra Vigeliene, a health content researcher explains that the drink is unlikely to cause any potential adverse effects. However, those with a sensitive digestive system may find this mixture less tolerable.
Like other fermented foods and drinks, some pickle juice contains probiotics — the good bacteria that promote gut health. However, probiotics are absent in pickles made from a mixture of vinegar and salt because no fermentation occurs. Pickle juice has many health benefits that include recovery from muscle cramps, and is a source of sodium and potassium. Pop star's drink also has diet coke which despite being sugar-free, has health risks. The sweet taste of Diet Coke is provided by an artificial sweetener called aspartame. Last year, the WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified aspartame as possibly carcinogenic to humans.
However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration refuted the assessment, saying that the studies on which the IARC's review relied had significant shortcomings. The agency said the current levels of aspartame use are considered safe by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives.
Not Everyone’s Cup Of Tea
Although Diet Coke contains no added sugars and is low in sodium content, combining it with pickle juice and jalapenos may increase the overall content of both sodium and added sugar in the drink, depending on the proportions of the ingredients used to make the beverage. This drink may increase sodium intake and irritate the gastrointestinal tract.
